One good source for researching Scottish life in general, but also the life in the Highlands between the World Wars, is the Scottish film institute. A great many videos from around 1910 can be found and are easily accessible.

Unfortunately, most of the films from that period are more concerned with depicting visits of the royal family and sport events than the simple life of crofters. Although there is little footage of the homes of ordinary people to be found, the physical struggle of the crofters comes across in films like “Life in the Highlands” (1936).
